The refuge perched on its rocky promontory, dominating the junction of the two glaciers, is the stage in the spring of the ascent of Mont-Blanc in ski touring. Apart from guarding, the refuge has a room permanently open in winter with 16 places.
The Grands Mulets refuge is located on the historic Mont Blanc route, on a rocky islet at an altitude of 3051 m surrounded by ice in the heart of the high mountains. It is an atypical and exceptional place.
The site is very popular in the spring for Mont Blanc on skis because it is the direct route located under the north face of Mont Blanc.
After skiing, it is an unusual mountaineering route to climb Mont Blanc, far from the crowds and in the footsteps of Balmat and Paccard in 1786, the first climbers.

From Plan de l'Aiguille, take the path which joins the Pèlerins glacier then cross to the old Glaciers station. Attention ! Passage through an area exposed to rockfall before the Jonction glacier. Path through a maze of crevasses and seracs. Then reach the refuge via a passage built on the rocky spur. Access conditions essentially depend on the state of the Glacier.
