Apart from guarding, the refuge has a room open in winter with 12 places.
This refuge is located, as its name suggests, on the side of the Aiguilles de Chamonix, which cannot be seen from the valley. At the base of famous towers and rocky needles, it is frequented by climbers who are also mountaineers because there are glaciers to access it.
Located several hundred meters above the Mer de Glace, it is a privileged place for hikers and climbers who can have breakfast on the terrace in the sun before setting off for a run, facing the Dent du Géant and at Mount Mallet.
