Musée d'art Sacré

Next to the church of Saint-Nicolas, the Sacred Art Museum presents around fifty objects, ranging from the 18th to the 19th century, retracing the history of the village!
This unique collection (sculptures, paintings, goldwork objects, liturgical vestments) comes, in large part, from the generosity and faith of the Saint-Nicolatans, expatriates in the German-speaking countries. Between the 15th and 18th centuries, the difficulties of life in the mountains pushed certain inhabitants to leave for the “Germanies” or Italy, to earn their living as peddlers or artisans. Some of them are doing well and establishing themselves as Bourgeois-Merchants in large European cities. They then make significant donations to their parish of origin, thus contributing to the richness of the decorations of the region's churches and chapels!

The “Living in Northern Savoie” exhibition is visible on the upper floor of the museum from June 21, 2024 until May 4, 2025.

For families, 7 Mistakes games and game booklets are available at reception to discover the collections in a fun way!
During the holidays, guided tours of the church and the museum of sacred art generally take place on Fridays at 15 p.m., and guided tours of the museum are possible throughout the year on request.

Outside of opening periods, the Museum of Sacred Art is open by appointment.
History, culture and heritage

We call Treasure all the precious objects and documents kept in a church.
Of that of the parish of Saint-Nicolas, Bernard Grandjacques recounts "that during the troubled periods of the Revolution, Reverend David, parish priest decided to hide him in a farm in Nant Blanchet, leading people to believe that he had him taken with him in his exile. It was not until the 1950s that it resurfaced and found a place in the presbytery. »
Today, it is at the Museum of Sacred Art that many objects of goldsmithing, paintings, sculptures and liturgical textiles that belonged to the church, but also to the surrounding chapels, are exhibited. A museum completely renovated after 2008, which presents the entire religious tradition of the valley in connection with the history of its inhabitants and in particular its peddlers.
