The mountain museum evokes rural life in the mountains through the reconstruction of pieces of traditional housing and the presentation of ethnographic objects used in the past in the Chamonix valley.
PERMANENT EXHIBITION
The Montagnard museum has been installed since 1977 in one of the oldest houses in the town center of Les Houches. Through thematic rooms and three rooms recreated from traditional habitat, it presents a collection of objects formerly used in the Chamonix valley for agropastoral tasks and for daily life. Two rooms host the temporary exhibition, renewed each year.

TEMPORARY EXHIBITION from December 26, 2024 to May 16, 2025
“Cable Cars and Company”

At the beginning of the 20th century, access to the mountains became available to the greatest number of people. In Les Houches, the Bellevue cable car was built in 1936, followed by other installations in the commune. Trace the thread of their history in the exhibition.

During the interwar period, the initially summer season was joined by winter attendance with the development of snow sports. Thus the first ski lifts appeared.
In Les Houches, the Bellevue cable car was built in 1936, followed by other installations in the commune. Trace the thread of their history in the temporary exhibition through photographs, documents and testimonies.
