Eglise Baroque "Notre Dame de l 'Assomption"

Probably one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in Savoy, listed as a historical monument. Recently restored, it is now in its original appearance. Gold leaf gilding, carved wood, polychromy, will delight your gaze.
Fabulous baroque decor. The Notre Dame de l'Assomption church was erected from 1781 to 1787. Its silhouette, balanced and vigorous, is refined by a bulbous bell tower with an openwork lantern of twin bays resting on median columns. The last fire of 1973 was important and required the intervention of the "Historical Monuments" which registered the building in the inventory in 1974 and financed the reconstruction of the bell tower and a first phase of restoration. This bell tower was covered with "patinated" steel (hot painted) in order to best imitate the rust of a tin of 1816. The exterior, very sober, does not suggest anything of the superb Baroque decoration. . The baroque wants to astonish and dazzle and it achieves this by the effect of light and movement. The furniture, the paintings, the architecture must arouse a very strong feeling of beauty, while suggesting that this earthly beauty is only an illusion before the true beauty of the divine world. Gilding, gold leaf, carved wood, polychromy, nothing is too beautiful to affirm one's faith. From the sky it borrows its azure, from blood its purple, from gold its light. The paintings, the pictures, the statues of our church tell us the whole history of Christianity and allow us to relive it in a few moments, more particularly the story of the Virgin.
