This summer, immerse yourself in the bucolic world of artist Geneviève Blanchard, including the summer exhibition of “Imaginary herbaria” transform the Beauregard mountain pasture into a true garden of creativity. Every week, Geneviève offers introductory workshops in the art of engraving to learn how to make your own prints of mountain flowers. At theTourist Office from Combloux, we were curious to know more, so neither one nor two, we tested for you the “Initiation to engraving for all” workshop, offered every Thursday until August 29, 2024.
Create a unique souvenir of Combloux
Postcard, bookmark, small accordion book or even pop-up... Choose your favorite medium to a personalized souvenir of your experience in Combloux. In this workshop, we will talk more about “plate” than support. But then, what is a plate? It's simply cardboard covered with a Tetra Pak type material. It is on this material that we will draw our favorite flowers and herbs, picked the same day around the mountain pasture by Geneviève.
Trust your “pencil stroke”
Ballpoint pen, pencil, choose what you like best and start the “drawing” phase. This is the time to be meticulous and observe closely the small details that make each of these mountain flowers unique. It is also an opportunity to share a moment of contemplation, during which we take the time.
You're not an ace at drawing? Do not panic ! We neither. Geneviève will be there to guide you and help you gain confidence in yourself and let your “pencil stroke” speak for an original creation.
Produce your engraving and color it
Once your drawing is finalized, it's time to move on to the engraving stage. Using a dry point, gently go over your drawing in a continuous stroke, taking care not to go through the cardboard. This step completed, we move on to inking. In yellow, black, red, green, blue, you are spoiled for choice!
With your fingers or by dipping a piece of gauze in the ink, cover your plate so that the color fully fills the hollows: it is the ink deposited in these hollows which will be printed on the paper during the passage in press.
Use a clean piece of gauze or a piece of wax paper to remove any excess ink from your plate, while ensuring that there is enough left in the recesses for optimal print quality. impression.
Print your creation
It's almost time to discover his creation! After preparing the moistened paper which will serve as a support for printing, we place our plates on the plate of the engraving press. Watch out for fingerprints! Carefully cover everything with damp paper, then with diapers that will allow the press to pass through. We turn the crank, we remove the diapers… and we discover his work, personal and unpublished, and we thus preserve a piece of the beauty of Combloux and its natural landscapes. An experience not to be missed, every Thursday until August 29, 2024!
