 Origins from year 1284 : The name Combloux first appears on a parchment in 1284, with a wolf's head seal. From all the possible etymologies (Comba Loci, comblovium) CUMBA LUPIS is the one mostly used : “The wolf valley” ("La Combe aux loup"). Located on the roman path, then on the path linking megeve and Sallanches, Combloux was populated since 12th century when benedictine came from Megeve to clear the region Le vieux village : The village is divided in hamlets ( 1 700 hectares). The one in Basseville center kept its rural life charm : farms and annexes (granite pools, bread oven and attics). La Ferme à Isidore : Long time ago, when rural and religious life were indissociable. 1832 Authentic farm, built following ancestral traditions, with local materials. The entrance, named "Cortonne" is used to access the "peille" (shared room), then to "dzan" (kitchen) where is the monumental "beurne" (pyramid shaped chimney, 9m high, formerly used to smoke pork meat). "Le boeu à les gens" (main room where family lived), and the "boeu de le" (stable where was sheltered at most 4 cows, 2 pigs, chickens and rabbits). Around 30 farms in activity. Except 1 farm organised in GAEC, even selling its reblochon via internet, others own their livestocks and are managed by pluri-activities farmers, linked to tourism development (ski instructors, craftmen, horse-sledge drivers)
