A village with preserved architecture

The village stretches over 1700 hectares and is made up of several hamlets.

The church steeple remains the highest building in the village : a postcard perfect scene...  the buildings respect the environment and traditions : no cement but wood and stone are everywhere.

Farmhouses

They remind us of rural farm life of the past.  Built in the traditional style, they had to house several generations as well as the animals.  The old town hides a beautiful authentic farm (1832) that has never been transformed.  From the "cortna" (entry hall) you reach the different rooms such as the "dzan" (kitchen) with the huge pyramidal fireplace where sausages and hams were smoked. 

Near the farm are the necessary outhouses : sheds, water trough and wash basin, bread oven and granary.  In the latter, for fear of fire, the peasants kept all their objects of value : seeds and grains, family papers, jewelry, money and Sunday clothes.

Chalets

The construction of new chalets in Combloux is very strictly controlled by the commune with the notion of maintaining traditional architecture, homogenous and respectful of the environment.   All constructions must be covered by a two-sided roof.  The color of all building materials is controlled.  Numerous new owners have happily found the beauty of times past with wooden shingled roofs.   Every facade and balcony must be at least partially of wood ...
